Would Deathcore fall into Hardcore or Death Metal, as it is a hybrid of both...Good example is Despised Icon. They have influences from both Hardcore and Death Metal...

So which is it?

I dont know which it would go under, probably depend upon the band being discussed whether their particular version of Deathcore has a larger Death Metal or hardcore influence.
However on teh topic of Depised Icon, they are definately an awesome band, the new cd is really good, and I have heard Consumed By Your Poison which is a much more death metal ariented cd and is also great.

That's a tough call, cuz Despised Icon is fucking right in the middle now. I would just throw them into Death Metal and say fuck off to anyone who doesn't think so.

I might get rankered (made that word up just now) on for asking but what is Trivium? to me anything 'core' involves breakdowns where solo's could be and clean vocals and death metal has no clean vox (although opeth is the best exception to that off the top of my head). Trivium has mad solos without breakdowns so are they metalcore or deathcore or death metal... too many branches of genres...

I picked up the latest GLASS CASKET a couple days ago. It is really cool!. Fans of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME or DESPISED ICON would like these guys.

Consumed by your Poison would fall right into the deathgrind category, it's a pretty brutal cd. The Healing Process would fall more into the hardcore element of things for me, there isn't enough death metal to warrant the label.

I would class both Despised Icon and Glass Casket as Death Metal or Deathcore. The hardcore influence in both bands is not considerable, especially for Glass Casket. Some hardcore vocals and breakdowns in a death metal song does not a hardcore band make. I can't think of any other deathcore bands, but I imagine the generalization would apply to them too.

If either band had existed before the advent of modern hardcore, no one would hesitate to call them anything but death metal.

Even Between the Buried and Me are more metal than hardcore. It more their insinuation in the hardcore scene which gives them the rep of being a metalcore band than the actual music. I'd say they're about 70% metal, 15% prog rock and 15% hardcore.

Deathcore is a like a sub-genre of metalcore, which is an offshoot of hardcore, so this section would seems appropriate.
