Maryland Deathfest VIII - lineup

They finally put out the tickets for sale and the official fest poster. For some reason, this year is mainly death metal based, not so much grind; compared to the previous festivals, they have more grindcore bands... Either way, the lineup is phenomenal, again. Some of the highlights: Autopsy, Possessed, Sodom, Gorguts, Malevolent Creation, Entombed, Asphyx, Pestilence, Sinister, Haemorrhage also, we have the canadian support, Putresence, Fuck the Facts, Massgrave.

Whoever is interested, pm me. I already talked to couple of pepole from the forum that are interested, but if we get together in a bigger group, we should figure out the travel expences, for hotel, plane-ticket and such.

Every year I think about how sweet it would be to go and this time I'm gonna try super hard to make it happen. Between Capitalist Casualties, Captain Cleanoff, Wolfbrigade, Converge and a fuckton of other bands that would be mind blowing to see live, it's going to happen!

Not going to lie, it's not as good as last year. Still Autopsy, Gorguts, Eyehategod, Pestilence and Portal could be a good time. Never going to have enough money to go though. Goddammit.

I made it work for me last year and I'm determined to make it this year. Already have my hotel booked just in case I can go. If I can't afford it, nothing wrong with canceling the hotel and just going about my life.

Well, I had a fucking incredible time last year so I'll definitely be going. Asking for a 3 Day Pass for Christmas again

I can't access that site from work. Someone tell me how much tickets are. I've been wanting to go for a few years now and I think I will make it happen for this one. How much did you guys pay for flights last year out of curiosity? I'm hoping to budget about 1.5 to 2 grand total for the trip, including hotel, food, tickets, etc. Think that'll work?

2 grand should do. Flight was about $450-500 (tops), and the ticket this year is $130 (US). You have about more than 1 grand left over for hotel (split cost), food, beer and merch for 3 days.

Dude, last year I had just under $400 American and I bought an outrageous amount of merch, 5 or 6 beers at the venue, a metric ton of food, and paid for a third of the hotel, and I still had $50 when it was time to go.

So, it looks like SODOM aren't playing MDF now, canceling at the last minute without properly notifying the organizers, and for some reason not known yet. Hope they don't pull this shit on Noctis too. :-?

Quote:
We just found out that it is true after reading internet rumors and noticing that other US dates have been cancelled as well, so we contacted their representative. We still don't know exactly how to word the reason for the cancellation, and we're trying to get to the bottom of it. This is truly the LAST possible thing we'd like to deal with ONE WEEK before the festival, but rather than dwell on it, we have over 60 other bands to welcome to MDF next weekend, and that's where our main focus needs to be. An official statement will be announced as soon as we know what can be stated.

MDF ruled hard!!
The weather was a little warm but not unbearably hot and it was good setup with only a few overlapping shows unlike last years. Cool to run into a few other wayward Calgarians down there too. :can:

So many damn highlights for me, but Entombed, "Possessed"/ Sadistic Intent (Becerra sounded great), the repeat showing of Asphyx, and the first North American gig by Necrophobic were just a few of the big ones. I really enjoyed a lot of the wacky grind and hardcore stuff too. It was also my first time seeing D.R.I and I sure won't pass up on that chance again. Got to meet lots of musicians including LG Petrov, Tobias from Necrophoboic and Martin Van Drunen among others. Dude's were just randomly hanging in the club, or walking around outside mingling with the fans. Many bands seemed just as pumped to be able to catch some of the other legendary groups like Autopsy, Gorguts, etc too.

I'll try to post a few pics of the shows once I sort through what seems like a thousand that I took. Damn, can't wait to find out who's on next years bill!

GORGUTS's set left me speechless. I have been waiting to see this band, and finally, dream come true. It was an awesome show. Entombed destroyed the stage, too.
Other good ones -> REPULSION! And tons of other. The list is endless. You should have been there. :)

They were selling the new movie they released, Maryland Deathfest the Movie. It has shots from last year's festival. It didn't have any from Bolt Thrower, which sucks, because that was one of the best live performing bands on last year's MDF.
