I've long felt that being a metalhead is more defined by what you hate than what you love. Which I believe is unfortunate. Seems like the concensus here is that this is changing though. I'm not to up on my techno, but I bet some of this cooler stuff has elements of heavyness. Also the new pop shit on the bear and sonic has tons of liberally ripped off Metal. It's the metal (s)melting pot. WE WON! Problem is being disenfranchised and being happy dont really go well together. And Metal is traditionally music for the disenfranchised.

It could easily be argued that a lot of the more interesting and unique styles of electronic music (Techno is a specific genre, not an accurate umbrella term) draw influence just as much from Hip-Hop as they do from Hard Rock/Metal. Saying "we won" is a juvenile statement, especially since Metal appears to be one of the styles that is most opposed to outside influence.

Yet Metal's influence can be heard in more and more other forms of music there poopy pants! Almost like a franchise..... Sorry guys, I refuse to get into the whole genre tag, dissection thing.I enjoy death and power and whatever else so long as the band doesn't suck. My friends arent cool enough to have turned me onto any electronic music lol. I dont think that there's any body of work out there by any artist(s) where I would hate every single track. Dont get me wrong I hate alot of shit! I promise to try harder with this genre thing if someone can tell me this: What subset of which genre does Motorhead fit into?

It's simply one of many genres of music that has influenced numerous contemporary styles, just like Hip-Hop or Pop-Punk. That's all I was saying man. But on another note, here's a list of a couple of producers of electronic music that -do- take a heavy influence from Metal: (often times sampling metal riffs themselves) -Komprex (Has done work with ANb) -Bonehead & Prince Ov Darkness -Nevermind (Has also worked with ANb, including records on Jay's old Blast Beat and Speedboat labels) -DJ Plague -Disciples Of Annihilation -Disciples Of Belial (Jason Mendoca's old group) -ScreamerClauz They're all Speedcore/Terror producers, but that's the genre that seems to take the most influence from Metal. The Berzerker started out as a solo Speedcore project, and it's my personal favourite kind of music.

For what its worth, there's also a sub genre called Power Electronics that is often very much influenced by Black Metal, Doom and Noise genres. Curious if our resident dj is familiar with it from his involvement in the scene. "Forgoing traditional musical elements of rhythm, composition, melody, and harmony, Power Electronics and Noise artists create extreme dissonance through the use (or misuse) of rudimentary electrical equipment. Power Electronics hit critical mass in the early 1980s with artists like Whitehouse and Merzbow, who surrounded their music with images of extreme violence and sadomasochism. Noise artists obtain very similar results with the use of processed guitar, voice and samples to generate clashing walls of conflict. Power Electronics and Noise artists were inspired by early Industrial bands like Throbbing Gristle who attempted to push the threshold of human hearing (and tolerance) by "playing" deafening white noise in live performances". A guy I know from another forum is heavily into it. Here are links to some of his projects and related sites. Warning: This is very minimalistic music. Certainly not what anyone would likely call 'techno'. http://www.myspace.com/churner4noisehttp://www.myspace.com/noiseatrocities

Like some one else said, hard rock, traditional heavy metal -which I believe Lemmy has tried to distance himself from, or as I always heard them being categorized, 'Speed Metal'.

Yup, I've heard of Power Electronics. I was into Noise and Power Electronics before getting into other forms of electronic music. Whitehouse are a great Power Electronics group who are definitely worth a listen.
I'm also a huge fan of the Japanese Noise scene, been listening to guys/groups like Merzbow, Incapacitants, C.C.C.C., BustMonsters, and Masonna for a while now. Merzbow's been taking a more rhythmic approach in recent years, but his productions always seem to come in phases. Incapacitants are by far my favourite, although C.C.C.C. does make some really pleasent, oddly sexual at times, noise.
And yeah, Motorhead are pretty much traditional Heavy Metal by my standards, though I can see the Speed Metal references.

Thanx for the education guys! Think were way of topic but wtf eh?
Also when it comes to Motorhead, you cant forget the Blues influence, specially in the lead guitar, lots of penatonics. (although who cares about the guitar in Motorhead anyway?) Tunes like Fast&Loose and Limb from Limb are strait up 12 bar.(on speed)
If you gave B.B. King an 8ball of crack, he could totally play for Motorhead lol!
What I'd like to see is a band that wears cowboy boots and hats(backward), has growls, screams and a nice falsetto, keys, a D.J., a GIGANTIC drum kit complete with triggers for samples and isnt afraid to play something that might not be accepted by their personal status quo.
When it comes to electronic though, all I really care about is whether I'm gonna lose my license plate! (from shaking off my car!)
